Cette statue Grecque de casque spartiate est une réplique de l’impressionnante protection Homoioi faite à l’époque d’un revêtement en alliage de bronze, et s’attachant à l’aide d’une mentonnière.
L’imposant cimier en véritable crin de cheval était digne d’un roi.

Léonidas, (mort en 480 av. J.-C.), était le Roi de Sparte. Sa position contre l’envahissement de l’armée Persane au col des Thermopyles dans le centre de la Grèce est l’un des longs récits de l’héroïsme Grec. Il est invoqué dans l’histoire occidentale comme l’incarnation de la bravoure démontrée contre vents et marées.
Léonidas succéda à son demi-frère, Cléomène Ier, comme roi, probablement en 490. Il était marié à Gorgo, la fille de Cléomène.
